nomination and appointment timeline
|The following schedule may be used as a guide to the timing of important steps in the nomination and appointment process.
Candidates' Junior Year
January: Member begins to receive candidates' applications for nominations to the service academies.
March -- May: Member’s office co-hosts several academy seminars across the district to inform students, parents, and educators of the congressional nomination process. Check in late February each year to find out about upcoming seminar times and locations.
June 1st: Member begins accepting applications. Applications may be sent to

Candidates' Senior Year
September -- January: Service academies provide periodic candidate evaluations to Members based on the information that candidates self-reported.
October -- November: Service academies send out early offers of admission/appointment and letters of assurance.
November 1st: Deadline in Member's office for receiving applications.
November -- December: Candidates interviewed by Member's academy nomination board.
January 31st: Member submits names of nominees to the service academies.
Late April: Academies have offered the majority of senior year appointments.
May -- June: Academies offer additional appointments to replace candidates who have declined their initial appointment.
Late June -- Early July: Newly appointed classes enter their service academies.
