U.S. Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-OH) issued the following statement today on Ohio’s December unemployment numbers:

“As more Ohioans lose their jobs, Democratic leaders in Congress are long past due to focus on creating jobs and getting Americans back to work, rather than spend their time in closed-door meetings, debating the Cap and Trade Energy bill, a government-run health care plan, or more job-killing tax hikes.  As I’ve been saying our focus in Congress should be on creating an environment friendly to job-creation.  Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Leader Harry Reid have continued to propose and pass legislation that kills jobs and causes employers and entrepreneurs to shelve plans to hire, expand, and innovate in the face of uncertainty. I’ve heard from employers in Central Ohio who are concerned about hiring because of Democrats’ proposals – more taxes, more mandates, and more government regulation.  Democrats need to abandon their tax-hiking, regulation-imposing, agenda and focus on creating jobs.  We need to focus on creating incentives for job creation.”

NOTE:  When Democrats took control of Congress in January of 2007, Ohio’s unemployment rate stood at 5.4 percent and the national unemployment rate was 4.6 percent.

A year ago when President Barack Obama was sworn into office in January 2009, the Ohio unemployment rate had soared to 8.8 percent and the national unemployment rate had risen to 7.6 percent.

The latest rate of Ohio unemployment measures unemployment in December 2009 and was released today.  Unemployment in Ohio stands at 10.9 percent and nationally the unemployment figure for December 2009 is 10 percent.
