U.S. Congressman Pat Tiberi  (R-Ohio) today released the following statement about President Obama’s executive actions to restrict Second Amendment rights:

“When President Obama cannot win on the merits of a policy, he has shown time and time again he will simply act alone. This time it is to unilaterally advance his agenda for more gun control. I have fought the administration on previous attempts to abuse executive power against the Second Amendment, and I will continue to do so.

“Recent tragedies in our country were horrible acts that renew the call for effective solutions against senseless violence. However, the president's proposals show no promise in preventing these tragedies or addressing the root causes behind them-- mental illness. If President Obama wants to make a difference, he should respect the rule of law and come to the table with lawmakers to advance reforms to our mental health system. He should not continue to ignore Congress or divide our country at the expense of law-abiding citizens.”
