The House of Representatives today passed H.R. 3590, the Halt Tax Increases on the Middle Class and Seniors Act, to provide relief to Americans by repealing an Obamacare tax hike that has made it harder for people to deduct high cost medical expenses. H.R. 3590 was introduced by Rep. Martha McSally and it passed with a bipartisan vote.

The following are excerpts from Rep. Pat Tiberi’s remarks on the House floor in support of H.R. 3590.

“H.R. 3590, the Halt Tax Increases on the Middle Class and Seniors Act, is a commonsense bill that repeals an onerous tax on 3.8 million households in America in 2016 alone. We should encourage patients to seek the care they need, not create more burdens and restrict access to medical care, as this Obamacare tax does.”

“I’m a proud cosponsor of this bill. I’d like to thank Congresswoman Martha McSally from Arizona for her passion for this legislation, her tireless work for this legislation, for testifying before the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee and for trying to help those 3.8 million households in America…in bringing this important issue to light today.”

Note: Rep. McSally highlighted how her bill helps families and seniors during a Member Day Hearing chaired by Rep. Tiberi on May 17, 2016. Tiberi held this hearing for members to present their tax-related proposals to increase access to high-quality, affordable health care options.
