Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act, which would prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars for abortion. Congressman Pat Tiberi voted in support of this legislation and released the following statement:

“Over 60 percent of Americans believe that the government should not fund abortions. That is why in 2009 President Obama assured us that no federal dollars would be used to fund abortions in Obamacare insurance plans. We know from a 2014 nonpartisan Government Accountability Office report that this proved to be another broken promise to the American people.

“Today the people’s House is taking a vital step to protect unborn children and the conscience rights of Americans everywhere. The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act would make the Hyde Amendment, which has repeatedly passed Congress with bipartisan support, permanent. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to take this up and send it to the president’s desk as soon as possible.”

Note: In 2014, a report released by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) confirmed that taxpayer dollars are used to pay for Obamacare healthcare plans that cover abortion, despite assurances from President Obama to the contrary.
